Before a very strong opponent like U20 Saudi Arabia, coach Hoang Anh Tuan made the most of the opportunity to check the squad of U20 Vietnam. He also created conditions for the new player to join the team, Khuat Van Khang, to play in the starting line-up to help this young midfielder have a faster pace with his teammates. Regardless of the trust of the coaching staff, Van Khang had a good performance and was also the player who scored the opening goal of 1-0 for U20 Vietnam. In the 10th minute, from the situation of a direct free kick, Quoc Viet hit a tight shot that made goalkeeper U20 Saudi Arabia struggle to save. The ball then hit the vertical post and bounced off and Van Khang was there in time, easily cushioning the ball into the net.

Excited after the opening goal, the U20 players continued to press quite well. In the 25th minute, from a coordinated attack on the left wing, Van Khang passed the ball smoothly to Quoc Viet to show the acumen of “Young top scorer”, scoring a goal to double the difference for U20 Vietnam.

In the following situations, the host U20 Saudi Arabia tried to raise the squad to find an equalizer. But it was not until the 41st minute that they had a goal to shorten the score to 1-2 from a surprise finish outside the penalty area. This is also the final result of the match, because in the remaining 45 minutes, both teams failed to score any more goals despite having many opportunities created.

After the “test” with U20 Saudi Arabia, the whole team will move to the UAE to continue training and play a friendly match with Dubai FC on February 23. In this match, the U20 Vietnam force will be more seasoned with 5 quality additional players including Ho Van Cuong, Tran Nam Hai and Dinh Xuan Tien (SLNA), Nguyen Phi Hoang (SHB Da Nang) and Bui Vi Hao ( Becamex Binh Duong). These 5 players have just completed the fourth round of V.League 2023 and will move to the UAE to join U20 Vietnam on February 19.
