VFF leaders encourage U20 Vietnam as they prepare for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers
On the morning of September 12th, leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) held a meeting to encourage the U20 Vietnam, which is currently training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, as they finalize their preparations for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Nguyễn Quốc Hội – Permanent Member of the VFF Executive Committee and Head of the team delegation for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers, Mr. Dương Nghiệp Khôi – General Secretary of VFF, as well as the entire coaching staff and players.
During the meeting with the entire team, VFF General Secretary Dương Nghiệp Khôi praised the team’s dedication and effort in training over the past period, particularly noting their resilience in overcoming unavoidable challenges due to the impact of storms and heavy rains. Mr. Dương Nghiệp Khôi affirmed that VFF leadership is committed to supporting and investing in youth teams to build a high-quality pipeline of future talent for the national team. Providing opportunities for the team to participate in international friendly matches and training camps abroad is part of a long-term strategy to enhance the skills and international experience of young players.
As the person entrusted by the VFF Executive Committee with the role of Head of the team delegation for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers, Mr. Nguyễn Quốc Hội encouraged and motivated Coach Hứa Hiền Vinh and his team. He expressed confidence that the team would perform at their best, achieve favorable results in each match, and reach their goal of securing a spot in the final tournament of the AFC U20 Asian Cup.
To prepare for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers, the U20 Vietnam assembled on August 15 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center and subsequently trained in Japan from August 23 to September 1. However, their preparation faced significant challenges due to unavoidable circumstances. Specifically, during their training camp in Japan, the team was forced to cancel their final friendly match due to Typhoon Shanshan. Upon returning home, their training program was further disrupted by Super Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon No. 3), resulting in only one friendly match against the Russian U20 team instead of the two originally planned. Despite these setbacks, the team has made considerable efforts to overcome the difficulties and maintain a high level of training to prepare as best as possible for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers. Coach Hứa Hiền Vinh stated, “The coaching staff had to adjust the training plan due to the impact of the storms, but the goal of the U20 Vietnam team remains unchanged. The entire team will strive to achieve the best results in each match and aim to secure a direct spot in the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup finals.”
The 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers feature 45 teams, divided into 5 groups of 5 teams each and 5 groups of 4 teams each. The top team from each group, along with the 5 best second-placed teams, will advance to the final tournament alongside the host nation, China. In this qualifying round, the U20 Vietnam is in Group A, alongside Syria, Bhutan, Guam, and Bangladesh. The matches in Group A will be hosted by Vietnam and take place at Lạch Tray Stadium in Hải Phòng from September 21 to September 29, 2024.
The team, led by Coach Hứa Hiền Vinh, is scheduled to travel to Hải Phòng on September 17.
