According to the report from the Ho Chi Minh City Football Association, during the period from 2024 to the first nine months of 2025, the city’s football activities continued to achieve impressive results across five areas: professional football, grassroots football, youth training, futsal, and school football.
In professional football, Ho Chi Minh City Club, one of the two representatives of Southern football in V.League 1, despite using many young players, still achieved an impressive result by finishing 4th overall in the 2023–2024 season. This is evidence of a positive transformation in training and utilizing the next generation of players, while also affirming the dedication spirit of Ho Chi Minh City football in the national professional football environment.
In women’s football, the Ho Chi Minh City women’s team continues to assert its leading position with six consecutive national championships (2019 – 2024) and holds the title of the most successful women’s club in Vietnam. The team also reached the semifinals of the 2025 Asian Women’s Club Championship and has contributed many outstanding players to the national women’s team such as Huỳnh Như, Chương Thị Kiều, Tuyết Ngân, and Thùy Trang.
In the futsal arena, Ho Chi Minh City’s clubs such as Thái Sơn Nam, Sahako, and Thái Sơn Bắc continue to maintain a leading position, consistently competing in the national championship contention group. Both Thái Sơn Nam men’s and women’s clubs won the national championship in 2025.
In addition, the school football and community football movements have been strongly maintained. The Ho Chi Minh City School Football Festival 2025 attracted 18,000 students from 262 primary schools, with 602 teams in the qualifying rounds and 204 teams in the finals. The federation also organized dozens of youth tournaments, student futsal competitions, talent programs for ages 11–15, and cooperated with the Vietnam Football Federation and international organizations to successfully host the 2025 Southeast Asia U19 Women’s Championship.
Ho Chi Minh City is also the only locality in the country with a youth training cooperation program with the Olympic Lyon Club (France) lasting nearly 10 years, training hundreds of potential players, many of whom have been called up to national youth teams.
Regarding organizational work, after the policy of administrative boundary merger was approved, the Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation completed the merger with the Binh Duong Football Federation and is awaiting instructions to hold the first congress under the new model. The personnel system and member network have now expanded to 76 members, including professional clubs, futsal teams, community football centers, and associations in districts and counties.
Speaking at the working session, President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Trần Quốc Tuấn acknowledged and highly appreciated the important contributions of Ho Chi Minh City football to the overall development of Vietnamese football, especially in the fields of women’s football, futsal, school football, and youth football. Chairman Trần Quốc Tuấn emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is a locality with good conditions, potential, and facilities, and is also a major center of the country in terms of economy, culture, and sports – therefore, it is necessary to leverage this advantage to become one of the leading forces of Vietnamese football.
The VFF President requested the Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation to soon stabilize its organizational structure after the merger to ensure effective management and maximize resources. At the same time, flexibly apply the orientations in the Vietnam Football Development Strategy until 2030, with a vision to 2045, in order to garner support and investment from state management agencies. “The VFF always cares for and accompanies its member organizations because the development of local football is the foundation for the sustainable development of Vietnamese football,” affirmed Chairman Trần Quốc Tuấn.
On behalf of the Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation, Mr. Trần Anh Tú – President of the Federation – thanked the leadership of the Vietnam Football Federation for their visit and work, and affirmed that they will fully absorb the guidance and orientations from the Vietnam Football Federation to concretize them into practical activities. Mr. Trần Anh Tú stated that the Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation Congress is expected to be held in November to complete the organizational structure and develop a comprehensive plan for the development of professional football, grassroots football, futsal, and women’s football.
Representing the state management agency, Mr. Nguyễn Nam Nhân – Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports – emphasized: “The Department always accompanies and creates the most favorable conditions for the development of football in Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to make the City a leading flag in Vietnamese sports, meeting the expectations of the fans.”
The visit and working session of the President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Trần Quốc Tuấn and the working delegation is part of the annual program aimed at grasping the operational status of member federations, listening to opinions and proposals from localities, thereby providing practical orientations and support solutions. This is also an important activity that helps strengthen the connection between the VFF and member organizations, towards the goal of comprehensive and sustainable development of Vietnamese football.
