Vietnam’s U17 women almost caused a surprise against Australia’s U17 women

There was a time when they took the lead over their opponents, but Vietnam’s U17 women could not defend their result against Australia in the second match in Group B, qualifying round 2 of the AFC U17 Asian Women’s Cup.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 28th minute as Ngan Thi Thanh Hieu latched onto a through ball, waltzed past several defenders and rounded Australian keeper Layla Adams before slotting home from a tight angle.

Australia’s comeback started in the 41st minute, Sienna Dale nodded in a corner kick, then bagged her second four minutes later with another header as Raeanne Dower’s charges roared back.
There was great cause for concern on the Australian bench in the 71st minute after Ischia Brooking suddenly went down showing discomfort, with the player substituted after receiving medical attention.
Vietnam pressed for the equaliser but Australia held their nerves to maintain their lead until the final whistle and in doing so, sealed their place in the Finals.
Philippines 3-1 Bangladesh
Philippines opened the scoring in the third minute through Isabella Preston but Bangladesh fought back to draw level a minute later via Mst Sagorika.
Having already scored twice against Australia on Wednesday, Nina Mathelus made it three goals from two games, finishing off a move in the 32nd minute to put the Philippines 2-1 ahead at half time.
Both teams gave it their all in the second half but it was Philippines who added to their advantage right at the end, Jelena Soon’s goal in the fifth minute of added time sealing the win.
