Vietnam U20 Women’s National Team gathers for training ahead of the 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers
From July 1 to August 11, the Vietnam U20 Women’s National Team will be in training to prepare for Group B matches of the 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, set to take place in early August at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
Under the guidance of Japanese head coach Okiyama Masahiko, the Vietnam U20 Women’s National Team has called up 29 players for training, with representatives from various localities: Ha Nam (8 players), Thai Nguyen (8), Hanoi (7), Ho Chi Minh City (4), and one player each from Vinh Phuc and Quang Ninh.
As head coach, Mr. Okiyama Masahiko shared that the squad primarily consists of players who competed in the 2025 AFF U19 Women’s Championship in June. Three new names on the call-up list are Lo Thi Huyen Trang (Ha Nam), Dao Khanh Vy (Hanoi), and Ca Thi Phuong (Thai Nguyen). Some players are currently recovering from injuries or are committed to the U16 competition, and therefore unavailable for this camp; Coach Okiyama will be replacing them with other options.
Reflecting on his first official tournament with the team—the 2025 AFF U19 Women’s Championship—Coach Okiyama commented:
“Based on the playing style we built in our previous training camp, the players performed well in every match of the tournament. In the final, we conceded goals due to small mistakes, but I believe we are capable of competing evenly with Thailand and aiming for the championship.”
Looking ahead with the U20 team, Coach Okiyama added:
“I’ve become familiar with coaching in Vietnam. The players are cheerful and friendly, which makes communication easy. They are also eager to learn and listen seriously, so it’s been easy to work with them. For the upcoming 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, we’ll address the issues identified during training and those observed at the recent U19 tournament. We also plan to organize friendly matches with strong teams during our upcoming training trip to Japan, which will help us grow and gain more experience through tough matches.”
According to the schedule, the team will have their first official training session on the afternoon of July 1. Coach Okiyama and his players will train in Vietnam for 10 days before departing for a training camp in Japan from July 11 to 21. Group B matches of the 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers will take place from August 6 to 10 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
