VFF organizes competency assessment for AFC/VFF ‘A’ Coaching Certificate Course 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City

On May 26 and 27, 2026, at Phu Tho Training Ground in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) organized a competency assessment for candidates registering for the AFC/VFF ‘A’ Coaching Certificate Course 2026 in the southern region.

A total of 12 coaches from clubs and football training centers in the southern region took part in the assessment.

The competency evaluation process was conducted under strict standards to ensure the quality of participants, in line with the approach currently applied in professional coaching courses at the PRO level – the highest coaching certification within the AFC coaching education system.

The AFC/VFF ‘A’ Coaching Certificate is an advanced level of coaching education that requires participants to possess a solid foundation of technical knowledge, tactical understanding and relatively consistent practical experience. The competency assessment is therefore organized to determine whether candidates meet the minimum standards necessary to effectively absorb and complete the training program.

All candidates are evaluated based on the same professional criteria, ensuring fairness and preventing participation in the course based on personal reputation or non-professional factors. At the same time, the entrance assessment process helps maintain the credibility of the course and preserve the value of the AFC/VFF ‘A’ Coaching Certificate.

In addition, the assessment results help instructors design training content that matches the participants’ competency levels, reducing professional gaps within the class and enhancing teaching effectiveness. The requirement to pass the entrance assessment also encourages candidates to actively review and prepare their knowledge while demonstrating a serious commitment to the coaching profession.

In the long term, improving the quality of coach education is regarded as one of the key foundations for the sustainable development of Vietnamese football, as highly qualified coaches will help develop high-quality generations of players, directly impacting youth development and the future growth of the sport.

The assessment was conducted by a team of instructors comprising Mr. Koshida Takeshi – an AFC-accredited instructor qualified to organize professional PRO coaching courses – and Mr. Le Huynh Duc, member of the National Coaches Council and VFF instructor.

Throughout the two-day assessment, Ho Chi Minh City’s U17 and U15 teams provided enthusiastic and professional support for the practical on-field sessions. The evaluations were conducted at Phu Tho natural grass pitch, where the playing surface was assessed as being of good quality, meeting professional requirements while ensuring safety for both the coaches and supporting players involved.

In addition to the instructors directly responsible for the assessments, the event was also attended by Mr. Lu Dinh Tuan – a graduate of Vietnam’s first PRO coaching course and Head of Youth Development for Ho Chi Minh City teams – along with many young coaches from the city who joined to observe, exchange ideas and gain experience.

Despite the hot and humid weather conditions in Ho Chi Minh City during the two assessment days, all evaluation activities were carried out seriously and continuously from 8:30 a.m. until late afternoon, concluding at 5:00 p.m. each day.

According to the plan, the second competency assessment for the AFC/VFF ‘A’ Coaching Certificate Course 2026 is scheduled to take place in Hanoi on June 9 and 10, 2026.
