Women’s national team’s head coach Mai Duc Chung and clubs joined the workshop

From November 6th to 8th, UEFA and AFC experts met with representatives and key stakeholders in Vietnam to discuss various topics linked to women’s football development. Mr. Milnes, the UEFA representative working closely with the VFF and AFC on this project, shared his excitement to be in Vietnam for the first time. He mentioned the country’s journey in securing a spot at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and rising to be among the top 8 teams in Asia. This rapid development is one of the main reasons the VFF was selected by AFC and UEFA for this collaboration.

The VFF is honored to be one of five national football federations, alongside Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, and Lebanon, to receive support from the AFC-UEFA Women’s Football Programme.

The project will span three years. In the first phase, UEFA will work with AFC and the VFF on strategies for women’s football, setting standards for the Vietnam women’s national team, developing and harnessing commercial value, and grassroots development.

Regarding the project’s goals, Mr. Milnes stated that the long-term objective of the programme is to ensure that women’s football grows sustainably, that participation levels increase annually, and that the women’s national team continues to qualify for future editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. “This is a long-term journey. I am particularly impressed by the commitment of the VFF and their plans for the future of girls and women’s football. We aim to build on  this further and ensure that women’s football in the country continues to grow not just in the short term but also in the long run.”

Mr. Milnes concluded by emphasizing the importance of AFC’s support in this programme, and the VFF’s role in ensuring the success of the collaboration.
