VFF and Criminal Police Department strengthen cooperation in preventing and combating Football-Related wrongdoing
On the afternoon of 14 July, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the VFF and the Criminal Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security held a meeting to review the results of their cooperation in preventing and combating crime and legal violations in football-related activities during the first six months of 2026, while also agreeing on key tasks for the coming period.
The meeting was attended by VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan; VFF General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu; representatives of the VFF’s functional departments, the National Football Coaches Council and VPF. Representing the Criminal Police Department were Colonel Bui Tuan Anh, Deputy Director of the Criminal Police Department, along with representatives of Division 4 and the VFF’s Football Integrity and Anti-Corruption Committee.
Following reports, exchanges and discussions on the implementation of their cooperation in recent times, the two sides agreed to maintain a regular coordination mechanism and strengthen information sharing and professional support in order to promptly detect, verify and handle cases showing signs of wrongdoing or legal violations in football-related activities.
The two agencies also agreed to enhance cooperation in preventing and combating illegal football betting operations, match-fixing and other legal violations related to tournaments, matches and football activities managed and organised by the VFF.
With regard to preparations for the 2026 ASEAN Championship, the Criminal Police Department will continue to coordinate with and support the VFF in ensuring security and safety, as well as preventing wrongdoing involving Vietnam’s national team during its preparations for and participation in the tournament.
The two sides will also strengthen coordination in implementing measures to ensure security and safety at Vietnam’s national team matches at My Dinh National Stadium. They will proactively prevent, detect and stop the use of firecrackers and flares, as well as public disorder caused by unruly supporters, thereby helping ensure that matches are held safely and in accordance with the regulations of international football organisations.
In addition, the VFF and the Criminal Police Department will coordinate in organising training, communication and educational programmes to provide knowledge and skills on crime prevention and combating wrongdoing in football for officials, coaches, players, referees and personnel involved in organising football tournaments.
At the meeting, the two agencies agreed to closely coordinate in maintaining security and public order, preventing and handling legal violations during the preparations for and organisation of the 10th VFF Congress (2026–2030 term), which is expected to take place in Hanoi at the end of 2026. The coordination will contribute to ensuring that the Congress is held safely, in accordance with regulations and achieves its set objectives.
The leadership of the two agencies also agreed to review and assess the coordination regulations and amend or supplement them, if necessary, to ensure their suitability to practical circumstances. In addition, the VFF Disciplinary Committee was requested to strengthen inspections and take strict action against clubs violating regulations.
The meeting also reached agreement on strengthening the inspection and supervision of clubs participating in competitions to ensure that they fully meet the criteria and conditions stipulated by the VFF.
