Two strikers from the Vietnamese national football squad, Le Cong Vinh and Nguyen Anh Duc, were not named on the final list of 15 nominees for the Player of the Year award of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Previously, Vinh and Duc were among 33 nominees for the AFC Player of the Year award. However, they did not make the final list due to their poor performance in the third qualifier round for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

This year”s race will be very tense between captain of Iraq team, the champion of the Asian Cup 2007, striker Younis Mahmoud, striker Yasser Al Qahtani of Saudi Arabia, Yasuhito Endo from Japan and the Republic of Korea”s goalkeeper Lee Won-jae.

The name of the winner will be announced on November 28, at Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia.
