On behalf of the VFF’s Standing Committee, speaking at the ceremony, VFF’s Vice President Tran Anh Tu said that to create conditions for the U23 Vietnam team to have the best preparation for the U23 Asian Cup 2024, in addition to training and competition activities for the team, VFF has trusted Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan to take on the position of head coach. At the request of head coach Hoang Anh Tuan, VFF also appointed Assistant Coaches to the coaching staff of the U23 Vietnam, including fitness expert Brandi Regato Neto Jose; Technical analysts, medical and logistics teams serve the team. VFF hopes that, with extensive experience and particularly impressive achievements in training young players, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and the U23 Vietnam will complete their assigned tasks at the U23 Asian Cup 2024, meeting the expectations of fans.

Before being appointed head coach of U23 Vietnam to participate in the U23 Asian Cup 2024, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan signed a contract with VFF to be in charge of selecting and training national youth teams from 2022 to 2024. now. After taking over the task, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan led the U20 Vietnam team to pass the qualifying round and attend the 2023 U20 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan in May 2023. Most recently, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan led U23 Vietnam to excellently win the U23 AFF championship for the second time, winning against U23 Indonesia in the final match in August 2023 in Thailand. Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan is also known as the coach who wrote down the history of Vietnamese football, when he led the U19 Vietnam team to reach the top 4 at the 2016 U19 Asian Championship, thereby joining Japan, Korea, and Saudi Arabia becoming four outstanding representatives of Asia to win tickets to attend the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup.

For his part, coach Hoang Anh Tuan expressed that being entrusted with the task of leading the U23 Vietnam team to participate in the continental arena is both an honor and a challenge for him. According to the draw results at the 2024 U23 Asian Cup, U23 Vietnam is in Group D with U23 Uzbekistan, Kuwait, and Malaysia. According to the match schedule, the U23 Vietnam team will play the opening match against U23 Kuwait on April 17. In the next two matches, the U23 Vietnam will meet U23 Malaysia on April 20 and U23 Uzbekistan on April 23.

In addition to competing for rankings, the U23 Asian Cup is also a tournament to determine Asian representatives attending the 2024 Paris Olympics. Specifically, the top 3 U23 teams of the tournament will win the right to attend the 2024 Olympics Paris. The fourth-placed team (the team that lost in the third-place match) will participate in the play-off match with an opponent representing Africa to compete for a place in France to attend the Olympics.

According to the plan, the U23 Vietnam will gather at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center from April 5, 2024. On April 8, the team will leave for Qatar to train and compete in a match with the U23 Jordan team on April 10, thereby completing the final preparation step before officially competing in the tournament.
