The 8th meeting of the VFF Executive Committee, term IX (2022-2026)
On the afternoon of March 27, the 8th meeting of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Executive Committee, term IX (2022-2026), took place at the headquarters of the VFF.
The meeting was attended by the Standing Committee of the VFF Executive Committee: Mr. Trần Quốc Tuấn – President of the VFF, Mr. Trần Anh Tú – Vice President of the VFF, Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Vũ – Vice President of the VFF, Mr. Nguyễn Trung Kiên – Vice President of the VFF, Mr. Nguyễn Quốc Hội – Permanent Member of the Executive Committee; members of the VFF Executive Committee for term IX; Heads of the VFF Committees: Audit, Discipline; Chairman of the National Coach Council; leaders of VPF, Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, and Bongdaplus. The General Secretariat was convened to report on relevant tasks at the meeting.
On behalf of the Standing Committee of the VFF Executive Committee, VFF President Trần Quốc Tuấn delivered the opening speech at the meeting, highlighting the notable successes of Vietnamese football in recent times. He specifically mentioned the victory of the national men’s football team in the 2024 ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup and the outstanding achievement of the national women’s futsal team, who defeated the strong Thai team in the final of the 2024 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship, securing their first-ever regional futsal title.
VFF President Trần Quốc Tuấn also praised and congratulated the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Football Club for their excellent performance in making a remarkable comeback against the Abu Dhabi Country Women’s Club from West Asia, earning a spot in the semifinals of the 2024/25 AFC Women’s Champions League. This marks the first time in the history of Vietnamese women’s football that a team has reached the semifinals of this competition.
Based on the operational plan and the objectives for Vietnamese football in the coming period, President Trần Quốc Tuấn urged the meeting to contribute ideas and approve solutions to ensure the national teams’ preparations and performances meet the set targets in important international tournaments, including the final qualifiers for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, the 2026 AFC U23 Qualifiers, the 2024 AFC Futsal Qualifiers, and the 33rd SEA Games. He also emphasized the need to ensure the successful organization of the second phase of the 2024/25 national professional leagues and proactively develop and implement plans for organizing the 2025/26 season.
After hearing the reports, the meeting focused on discussing, contributing ideas, and voting to approve several important matters, including:
- Approval of the report on the VFF’s activities in the first quarter and the implementation of tasks for the second quarter of 2025.
- Approval of the report on preparations for the national football teams’ participation in major tournaments, including the U17 team, futsal teams, and preparations for the national team’s upcoming matches.
- Approval of the adjustment to the promotion and relegation system for the V.League 1 and V.League 2, with 2 teams promoted and 2 teams relegated, as well as the criteria for clubs participating in AFC/AFF tournaments for the 2025/26 season.
- Approval of the number of foreign players each women’s football club can use in the National Women’s Football Championship and National Women’s Cup starting from the 2026 season: 1 player.
- Approval for Mr. Trần Anh Tú to continue his current roles at the VFF and VPF.
- 100% of Executive Committee members present agreed to dismiss Mr. Võ Quang Vinh from the position of Vice Chairman of the Arbitration Committee due to professional and training violations.
- Approval of other matters aimed at improving the quality of referee training, technical operations, sponsorship efforts, and the development of football in Vietnam.
