Olympic Viet Nam was beaten 3-2 by Singapore “s rival in SEA Games Group B on December 3. Going against optimistic forecasts by experts and football fans, the Vietnamese team played a disappointing game with two own goals.

Quang Thanh diverted a pass from Singapore”s Isa Halim into the back of his own net at the sixth minute, giving Singapore a 1-0 lead.

Disaster continued for Viet Nam when they gave another goal to the opposition. This time Long Giang made a mess of clearing Singapore”s Fazrul Nawas”s cross at the 24th minute.

Though having one player sent-off at the 28th minute after a second booking, Singapore scored its final goal at the last minute of the first half.

After the break, Viet Nam pulled one back by striker Phan Thanh Binh. The team then narrowed the gap with a penalty at the 93rd minute of the match.
In another match at the same time, Malaysia beat Laos 4-0.

Singapore now ranks first in Group B with four points, Viet Nam places third although it has three points as Malaysia does.

Viet Nam needs a victory against Laos on December 8 to enter the semi-finals.
