The Cong lead V-League table

The Cong’s ambition to replace Haiphong’s top position came true on May 13 after they beat Nam Dinh 1-0 in the latest match of the sixteenth round. 

The crucial victory promotes The Cong’s return to V-League

Both team entered the game without several key players. The Cong had to use two young defenders while the hosts Nam Dinh appeared to be exhausted due to their recent competition in the AFC Champions League.

After 20 minutes of balanced competition, The Cong began to launch consecutive attacks to seek a win to lead the table.

In the 27th minute, The Cong won a right corner kick which marked the decisive moment of the match. Ngoc Duy’s difficult shot gave goalkeeper Quang Huy no chance and The Cong took the lead.

Entering the second half, Nam Dinh showed a different form, launching rapid attacks and pushing The Cong onto the defensive.

In the 62nd minute, Nam Dinh’s forward went down in the box due to a tackle by The Cong’s defender Rafael. However, the referee refused to give the hosts a penalty.

Nam Dinh continued to increase their pressure on their rivals but The Cong’s goalkeeper Michael performed excellently to preserve a victory for his team.

The win helped The Cong jump up from fourth to the top place with 28 points, one point ahead of Haiphong who drew Khanh Hoa 1-1 on May 11.
