Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Mohamed Bin Hammam has assured his full support to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF)”s efforts to develop football in the country.

Inaugurating the `Vision Vietnam” meeting at the AFC House on Tuesday, Bin Hammam said: SI know the task is very big and the load is very heavy, especially when you are in a continent where football is booming.⬝

SYou have to bring football in Vietnam to the top of Asia along with Japan, Korea Republic, China, Saudi Arabia and we know the task is not easy. We would like to assure our support in all your activities.⬝

SWhen we started Vision Asia” three years ago, Vietnam was one of our priorities. Based on their visit to Vietnam, our team has made some recommendations and your input in this will be valuable to finalise a development plan,⬝ he said.

VFF President Nguyen Trong Hy said the visit was important to show his team”s determination to achieve the target.

SAs per the observations, Vietnam has a good potential to develop the game but there are some hiccups to bring the country at the same level as the top ten teams in Asia. The players and officials are not professional enough and there is no structure for the clubs,⬝ said Trong Hy.

SThe programme to develop youth is also not the same in each club, while the level of administrators in the clubs and the VFF is also very limited.⬝

SI am sure that with the contribution of AFC experts, we can overcome these challenges,⬝ he said.

AFC General Secretary and Vision Asia” Director Dato Peter Velappan made the opening remarks.

During the day-long meeting a final agreement on the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Football Development in Vietnam is expected to be reached. The two parties will also identify the timetable and tasks. The responsibility for implementing the specific tasks will also be allocated.

The VFF delegation also includes Vice-Presidents Le Hung Dung and Vu Quang Vinh, Nguyen Trong Hy, General Secretary Tran Quoc Tuan and Le Hoai Anh of the international department.
