Laos made a good start with the goal of striker Chony Wenpaserth in the 16th minute.
Việt Nam launched counter attacks but they failed to earn any goals in the first half.
Early in the second half, Việt Nam pressed on and levelled the score to 1-1. Receiving a pass from the right wing of Minh Dân, Quốc Hoàng headed the ball past the goal keeper of Laos.
In the 51st minute, Trung Hậu raised the score to 2-1 for the Vietnamese side.
In the remainder of the game, Việt Nam changed tactics and players but no more goals were scored.
The event attracted the participation of 12 teams. Việt Nam are in Group D with Laos and Miyazaki.
The teams will compete in a round robin format to choose the best team in each group to reach to the semi-finals.Việt Nam will next face Miyazaki today.
