The Vietnam women”s team lost 2-1 to their hosts Republic of Korea on August 12 in their final match at the second qualifying round of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Vietnam went down 2-1 in the first half. In So Yun opened the scoring for the hosts before Ngoc Cham cancelled it out. The Korean restored their lead five minutes before half-time.

The Korean side remained unchanged to that beat Vietnam 2-1 in their first meeting inHaiphong.

Meanwhile, Vietnam were without injured midfielder Van Thi Thanh.

Vietnamese team started the game with determination to earn a good result in their final match of the second qualifying round.

However, they went 1-0 down after 14 minutes when In So Yun struck home the opener.

Vietnam“s quest became more difficult when Hong Tien went off injured and replaced by Tuyet Mai. 

Nine minutes from half-time, Vietnam drew level with Ngoc Cham fired home the equaliser after a good cross from Minh Nguyet.

One minute later, Ngoc Cham came close to putting Vietnam in front as her header to the top corner was palmed away by the Korean goalkeeper.

Five minutes from time, Vietnam conceded another goal.

After the break, Vietnam played better and Tuyet Mai wasted a good chance to equalise, finishing just wide with 13 minutes left.

Vietnam exited the second qualifying round with three points from their six games. The points were won after a 1-0 victory over Thailand in Haiphong.
